Joaquin Phoenix, who turned just 34 years old yesterday, has announced he is retiring from acting and going to concentrate on his music. He recorded the album "Walk the Line" for the movie of the same name and is now working on a new album with Tim Burgess. Phoenix's last movie is the completed Two Lovers, a drama directed by James Gray and co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

Phoenix made the announcement in this interview with E! Online, whose reporter thought he was kidding:

I agree that he is a douche. He always seemed like he was a huge tool, and the way he acted when the reporter thought he was kidding proved it.
"Why would be kidding about that?" - Joaquin

Well, Joaquin, because that is a dumb-a$$ move, that's why. Good luck with your music, moron.

Wow, was he trashed or what? He couldn't even say one word without his speech sounding slurred.

Jumpin' ****balls, what's with the animosity towards him? Two straight, sure, but I've never seen five straight negative comments like that.

He did Johnny Cash justice in Walk the line, and he played a good villian in Gladiator. Other than that I dont think I saw him in much. This is not meant to sound mean, but when a great talent like Heath Ledger just dies and another like Joaquin Phoenix just wastes away its really not fair when the one who could have gone the distance is gone.

haha so far no disapointments from anyone. whenever he was in a movie I couldn't help but to feel like the movie could have been better if he wasn't in it

Yeah I agree...he never really WOW'd me in anything. And Douche is a fair discription of him. And plus he is not retiring, thats what he's saying now but when his music CD hits the bargin bin at Walmart and he see's is getting low on funds...he will be calling his hollywood agent in no time.
