Warner Bros. Pictures has set a November 20, 2009 release date for the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong and Kelly Reilly.

In the thriller, Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes' trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary.

The only other movie scheduled for that week before Thanksgiving next year is Sony's animated sci-fi tale Planet 51, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese.

Well, spiffy, now Hollywood is going to screw up yet another classic story. Sherlock Holmes didn't have a romantic relationship with ANYONE, though he did have admiration for Irene Adler, he never had any kind of romantic relationship with her! She was in one story, and at the end disappeared because she was getting married to someone else. Holmes only knew her for a couple days and only talked to her once, and that in discise! I don't have a problem with the casting, I think that'll turn out right, I'm just ticked they're screwing up the characters.

Sorry to rant, but I'm just tired of Hollywood screwing up old movies and old stories by either making them PC or trying to add something they think the public wants to see. >

Since years I hoped for a new Sherlock Movie, for I am a great fan of Doyles Stories.

Robert Downey Jr. ... Well, I think Robert is a good looking man and I like his acting. But - damn it - he s not the right man for this role !!! Why does every filmmaker get this wrong about casting a Sherlock actor !??

Sherlock is very very tall, and he has a very big, hawk-like nose. Doyle described his physicals very often in the book. And Robert Downey Jr. looks just NOT like the "real" Holmes !!!!

For my opinion Adrien Brody would have been the perfect man for this role.
I am very unhappy with this casting... Even Mark Strong - also in the film - would have made a better Sherlock than Robert....
