Brad Pitt & George Miller Team on The Odyssey

After turning Homer's epic poem "The Iliad" into the 2004 film Troy, Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt are teaming with George Miller to adapt the Greek poet's other masterwork, "The Odyssey."

Their intention is to transfer the tale to a futuristic setting in outer space.

Variety says Warner Bros. has quietly set up The Odyssey, and the early hope is that Pitt will star and Miller will direct, with Pitt's Plan B producing.

Both Homer poems dealt with the Trojan War; "The Odyssey" focused on the exploits of Odysseus, who hatched the idea to build the Trojan Horse. "The Odyssey" deals with his long journey home after he declines to become a god.

Pitt just began shooting the Quentin Tarantino-directed Inglourious Basterds.

This sounds pretty interesting. I vote Angelina Jolie for the role of the cyclops...she scares the crap out of me. Plus everyone knows she has a huge brown eye. Zing!

Im a big fan of brad pitt and all but I actually would prefer the original odysseus from the movie "Troy." Sean Bean did an amazing job and he is a great actor. Too bad he doesnt do many films anymore.

Sounds very cool. And keeps George busy and far away from any Justice League movie.

Err....I don't recall anything about Odysseus declining godhood. I thought he just pissed off ole Poseidon and thats why it took him so damn long to get home. At least that and some ****ty navigation. and I dunno if Mr. Pitt can really pull off crafty. That Odysseus is supposed to be a smart cookie, not a sex-crazed ass-kicker like Achilles.

I don't know what DubZ means about Sean Bean not doing many films anymore, considering he had 3 films released in last year alone, but I definitely agree that he was great as Odysseus in Troy and I'd love to see him in the role again. Even if it's a completely different movie from Troy, Bean's the right guy for that part.

You've got to be kidding me...

They butchered the Iliad bad enough. Now they're butchering The Odyssey? Well, atleast they're going all they way in changing the adaptation instead of simply making a crappy adaptation, a la Troy. I can picture the synopses now...

"After a ten year war in the Alpha-Cetti-TROY region; Odysseus, a Master Gunner in the Achaean federation military, must make a 10 light-year journey back to his home Galaxy of Ithaca."

Sounds like something a Scientologists has to do when they die.

this is a baaaaaaaaaad idea, brad is awsome but why make the movie in space. thats retarded. The original tale is a masterpiece and thus should be made into a movie especaily with the ability movie movie makers have in this day and age.

I always wanted them to do a sequel to "Troy" and have Sean Bean reprise his role as Odysseus in "The Odyssey."

History repeats itself. A big blockbuster DC Comics (Detective Comics Comics?) movie is scrapped, the director is then left to make a movie based on an epic by Homer and starring Brad Pitt. Uh-huh, uh-huh, Wolfgang Petersen, Batman vs. Superman, anybody? O_O
