Steve Carell is Brigadier Gerard!

Steve Carell will play the title character in The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard, a comedy set during the Napoleonic Wars that Media Rights Capital is developing for a spring 2009 production start.

Variety says the script was written by John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (Blades of Glory).

The film is among several that Carell is considering; he plans to star in one or two films during his hiatus after shooting the fifth season of NBC sitcom "The Office."

Carell will play the title character, the bravest soldier in Napoleon's army and also the dumbest. Gerard follows Napoleon from his rise to power to his permanent exile. The comedy is based on stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The movie will be produced by Altschuler and executive produced by Mike Judge and Krinsky, both of whom are partners with Altschuler in Ternion, a production company that has a deal with MRC.

Michael Rotenberg and Tom Lassally also will executive produce.

Nice! Sounds like fun. I frickin' love Steve Carell. I'll be sure to check this out.

I think his second film during the hiatus is "Date Night" with Tina Fey, right? Sounds strong and good too. "Baby Mama" was a very nice surprise. :]

As long as he doesn't "Steve Carell" it up it might be funny.

e.g.: Any character: "I hope you remembered to *blank*

Steve Carell: "Oh (cough) yes, of course." Sits in silence while the audience "laughs"

rinse, repeat

Hey what about Get smart 2 and Date Night I rather see that then this movie. Napoleon? I mean they've made many films about Napoleon and I'm sad to say the highest gross and most well known one is dynamite. No one wants wants to see a Napoleon film. Let Steve Coogan do it if anyone but let's keep Carrell's good name clean I mean the poor guy is still getting over Evan Almighty.

I know Get Smart was a moderate success in the box office but that movie shouldve bombed, it was just bad, I probably chuckled a few times thats all and it doesnt merrit a sequal. And this Napoleon sounds like it will fall in the level as Get Smart.
