About Those Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Rumors?

Source:Terry Rossio
October 15, 2008

Terry Rossio, co-screenwriter of the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, has debunked the various rumors that are going around about Pirates of the Caribbean 4. They ranged from Johnny Depp getting $56 million for the fourth movie to Tim Burton directing to Sacha Baron Cohen and Russell Brand co-starring. Rossio writes:

For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp.

Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing.

The only thing that has been officially announced so far is that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth film.

See... there's still the possibility of Johnny returning. I don't want a fourth Pirates. I'm not sure anyone does! They need to just let them die, or come up with something new for Johnny to do.

They "nuked the fridge" with the second one. The first one was fun, franchise had so much potential, and then it just felt like they were doing it for the money, with a couple of good ideas sprinkled throughout the 2 sequels. If they're really gonna make a new one, they need new people behind the camera. Someone with fervor and imagination.

I'm fine with another potc movie... just as long as the writers and gore verbinski stay away from it. i'd like to see burton collaborate with depp on a pirate movie, but if it's just going to be another ****ing flick ridiculing itself (again) spare us...

4 hrs. in a giant whirlpool might be enoufgh

I hope that if/when there is a fourth one, the story fits.

Will and Elizabeth are out, but Jack, Barbosa, and the Pearl are still out there. It was an interesting ending to leave the third film with a majority of the characters in the same place as they were at the beginning of the first one.

We will just have to see what pops up in the Caribbean: The Fountain of Youth, Atlantis, Timewarps that bring Capatin Jack to the future where he battles the box office nightmare from Pirates 5 and 6. Who knows

1st was good, 2nd ok, 3rd sucked. Why even bother with the fourth. Its just gonnna get worse, espescially if Kiera wont brin her fine ass back. Shes half the reason I watched the last one. Good god shes fine.

I thought the second one was fantastic. The 3rd, not so much. It just seemed like they really could wrapped up the Davy Jones thing in number 2.

That being said, I'm excited to see number 4. I think the pirates films have some of the most potential out there.

i hope they figure out a way to get will back to elizabeth because that 1 day every 10 years was a horrible way to end a trilogy

I was thinking that Robert Downey Junior would be sweet as Jack Sparrows brother or foil. I also like the idea of Russel Brands. Not big on the Sacha Baron Cohen idea though. But who knows, I could be wrong. I know they've only announced part IV, but I wonder if this will be the start of another trilogy or just a stand alone.
