Frank Darabont Exits Law Abiding Citizen

October 12, 2008

Ain't-It-Cool-News reports that director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) has left the Law Abiding Citizen production.

The psychological thriller follows a successful assistant D.A. (Gerard Butler) who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system (Jamie Foxx). Foxx's character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter's murderers will be set free. So he unleashes revenge on the killers and those who made the deal.

There's no word yet on who might replace him and how this affects the filming.

I bet he realized the story was too formulaic for his talents.

I actually like the story. But this is disappointing news. Frank Darabont is a great director and he was the main attraction for me. Oh, well. It still sounds promising to me.

i just wonder how far into the shoot (assuming they are already shooting) they are in... sounds like a cold blooded drama/thriller tony scott may direct... who knows...

darabont should not have made the mist and maybe he sensed he could make a better comeback with a much more significant film

The Mist was an excellent piece of cinematic yarn, but the unsanctioned (by him anyways) script rewrites of this new flick probably persuaded him to walk away and let the intrusive studio heads to continue re-writing and directing their masterpiece. Huu-rrahh!

I actually really liked The Mist, not great like Shawshank or Green Mile but it is definitely the best horror film in in years.

Wasn't he supposed to do his version of Fahrenheit 451? I was really looking forward to that.
