WB Developing Get Smart Sequel

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a sequel to Get Smart. Steve Carell would return to play Maxwell Smart.

The first film, also starring Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Arkin and Terence Stamp, has earned $130 million domestically and $94 million internationally for a global total of $224 million. It cost about $80 million to make.

In related news, the studio has signed Carell to a three-year first-look deal. Carell has formed Carousel Productions, which will be run by Vance DeGeneres and Charlie Hartsock.

The Get Smart sequel is not part of the new overall deal.

YES! I loved "Get Smart". Big fan of Steve Carell (hopefully they recast Anne Hathaway.. I don't really like her. too annoying. She always tries way too hard to be 'appealing'). The Rock of course can't return..haha.. but I'm sure Arkin will. And the movie just made me laugh a lot. I had a great, great time. Can't wait until it comes to DVD November 4th.

i am glad they are making a get smart sequel steve carell made a good choice in taking over the role of maxwell smart i hope all the cast comes back and peter segal retuns as director.

The Rock Can't return? I think in Get Smart you can get blown up in a bus & return somehow. Hahahaha. Is it just me or was The Great Khali(Dalip) pretty funny in the first one?

Definitely had a few innocent laughs in it, but I'm not too confident that a sequel is needed. I'd rather see Steve Carrell return to some more edgier comedic roles before relying on a quick franchise.

With such hit remakes as Mission Impossible and Bewitched(sarcasm intended), I thought it would be mediocre at best. I thoroughly enjoyed it however, and think it is the best tv series to movie remake yet. A contender in a market ripe with superheroes flicks.
