Remake of 1987's Angel Heart in the Works

Michael De Luca has partnered with Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta to develop a remake of the 1987 Mickey Rourke supernatural thriller Angel Heart, reports Variety.

Producers optioned remake rights from a private U.K. firm, which owns the rights to the original film, which was produced by Carolco and distributed by TriStar. De Luca, Rosenzweig and Gaeta also optioned the underlying book rights to William Hjortsberg's novel "Falling Angel," from which the original film was adapted.

The original, which caused a stir for its steamy sex scenes, was written and directed by Alan Parker and also starred Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet.

The novel follows the exploits of Harry Angel, a New York detective hired by a mysterious client to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.

I hate remakes. More so than most people. But I think most will agree that remakes of films that are barely 20 years old (i.e. The Hitcher) is really lame, uninspiring, and a complete lack of creativity.

Great! And then another Willy Wonka remake is the next project, right?

Why not remake a already great movie not even 20 years old, considering all the great remakes batman aside i have to say this sounds terrible especially in the year 2008 where nobody will comprhend this great 1987 film if it is indeed somehow botched down to a pg-13 and 80 minutes long by some weak director

Oh yeah because when I last watched Angel Heart i thought to myself, this is such a fantastic film i really hope they remake it for a modern day version of Louis Cypher and incest, cause that is definitely what we needed now because it's so different from all these political patriotic pay day films. Here's to hoping a Deliverance remake is next on the board.

So... another remake? I think I know why, they will make it dark and gritty like "The Dark Knight"! *rim shot*

Saw Don Johnson pictured with Mickey Rourke at the TIFF red carpet a few weeks back. Dare I say it; a remake of "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" possibly in the works??? Why use new originiality when we can re-interpret old originality? Geez.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake?

This news sucks. I hate remakes and "The Dark Knight" is not a remake.

The 89 Batman movie had no plot nor story, meaning it's impossible to remake it.
