Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has been hired by Overture Films and Hammer Films to write and direct a remake of Let the Right One In with plans to release it sometime in 2009.

Tomas Alfredson's original Swedish vampire film of the same name, which opens in limited release on October 24th, tells the story of a young boy who befriends a girl who happens to be a vampire. Hammer acquired the English-language remake rights when Alfredson's picture won rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival.

According to Variety, it will be produced by Hammer's Simon Oakes. Spitfire's Guy East and Nigel Sinclair and Swedish producers John Nordling and Carl Molinder. Spitfire's Alex Brunner and Tobin Armbrust will exec produce along with John Ptak, Philip Elway and Fredrik Malmberg.

The book that the movie is based on is just amazing. And what I´ve seen of the Swedish movie, the same goes for it too. Check it out, you won´t be dissapointed!

WHY GOD WHY must we remake EVERY SINGLE good foreign film? I saw "Let the Right One In" at Tribeca in May, and it was AMAZING! Why can't we just enjoy THAT film? This really pisses me off... once again we have to put our stamp on great things we didn't accomplish ourselves.

i agree with mark and joe. make cloverfield 2 and just leave a great foreign film alone, let it stand on it's own merit...

I read a report about 4 months ago about how Reeves next film will be Cloverfield 2. What the hell happened. I think we all want that more than a reverse Twilight movie. Bring on the Cloverfield prequel pleassssssssse!!!!

I think this is the proof that Hollywood has become 100% unoriginal. I mean Let the Right One In was just made and it's amazing. So thank you Matt Reeves for finally killing film.

this is horrible, i saw let the right one in in theaters and it was beyond amazing, there really is no way that matt reeves can make it better, its a losing battle and it will destroy the reputation of a new classic, right now i feel its the best movie of the year and unless something mind-blowing comes along it will stay that way, and if thats the case he definitely shouldn't remake it, i mean you don't see sweden remaking no country for old men

The problem is that studio executives assume most americans just can't and aren't used to read captions in movies, and they assume the audience prefers to see familiar faces (and language) on screen. See what has been done to japanese horror movies (the ring, dark water, etc.)...it's just the same case. Well, shame on them.
