Disney officially announced today that Johnny Depp will star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

It was also revealed Burton is shooting the film in 3-D.

The film is based, naturally, on the Lewis Carroll classic "Alice in Wonderland," and will combine performance-capture imagery, similar to Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf, with live-action footage.

Depp is joining previously cast actors Mia Wasikowska (as Alice) and Matt Lucas. Disney has set a release date of March 5, 2010.

I knew that would happen. Sigh. Am I the only one who doesn't like Burton?

we shall see...but i did NOT like what Burton did with both Planet of the Apes and Willy Wonka at all. (Johnny's Wonka was lame compared to Gene Wilders.)

Depp's Wonka might not have been as good as Wilder's but Burton's film was infinitely better and more true to the book.

And for everyone bagging on Burton using Depp again.. where are the complaints against Scorsese always using DiCaprio or DeNiro. If they work well together, who cares if he works with him again?
