Jude Law is negotiating to join Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Strong in the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes at Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Law is expected to close a deal shortly to play Dr. John H. Watson, the super-sleuth's sidekick. Strong is playing the villain, Blackwood.

Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin are producing. Production begins early next month in London.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book "Sherlock Holmes."

I actually think Paul Bettany would make a better Dr. Watson and he has already served as a Downey foil. He voiced Tony Stark's computer in "Iron Man".

I do appear to be first. Don't care.

Not knocking Downey, since he's awesome, but I actually think that Sacha Baron Cohen, who's cast as Holmes in the supposed comedy version, is the perfect Sherlock, comedy or not.
I'm not so sure about Law as Watson either. Get the guy from the Wishbone episodes!

This film just keeps on getting worse. First we hear Ritchie is directing, then Downey, Jr. is Holmes, and now Jude Law is Watson. Why don't they put the final nail in the coffin and start over from scratch. I like Sherlock Holmes, but this movie is going to royally suck.

Oh, I'd love to see RDJ and Jude work together on this! This sounds very exciting.

Worst casting ever? Jude Law should no longer have a career... who would pay to see this tool bag?

Sorry guys, but if it wasn't for Ritchie, Downey as well as the other names thrown around, this movie would've only be reaching a niche audience. I know and liked the Sherlock Holmes character from when I was a kid, but I wouldn't give a care for an indie movie made to appease the fans.
