Exclusive: Shia to Shoot Dark Fields This Winter

ComingSoon.net just finished speaking with director Neil Burger (The Illusionist) about his American road movie The Lucky Ones, and he confirmed to us that he would start shooting Dark Fields with actor Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) in New York City sometime this winter.

Based on the 2002 novel "The Dark Fields" by Alan Glynn, the Universal Studios thriller is about a pill that makes you smarter and it's Burger's first film directed based on someone else's script, in this case an adaptation by Leslie Dixon, who's also writing the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

Burger said the subject matter isn't handled in a science fiction way but as he told us, "It's more like if there's viagra or steroids, why isn't there something that increases your synaptic connections and makes you think smarter and faster, but it's not without side effects and consequences."

Look for our full interview with Burger next week before The Lucky Ones opens in select cities on Friday, September 26 (against Shia LaBeouf's new thriller Eagle Eye, no less!)

This could be great . Remake of the Birds ? It could be great with the advances in CGI . Please cast the Birds well if you have people like Lohan it could come off realy bad .

Please remake North by North West . Cast George Cloony as the lead and M. Night to direct . Lets get M. Night back on track .

Dark Fields is a great book with a totally filmic feel. Hopefully Shia Burger can pull it off.

Oh yah and the smart pill movie sounds very interesting, and a The Birds remake could be good if done right.

Remake the Birds? To be completely honest, I didn't think the first was all that great... I love every Hitchcock film except that one... guess I didn't catch the societal moral undertones or whatever. The birds eating people was fun though. A new one, oh wow, this time the birds are cartoons made by a computer. Can they transform?
More originality please.

Idiots, you dont need to remake The Birds and North West by Northwest they are already amazing and you simply cant make improvemants. If they ever did remake North West By Northwest though I agree that George Clooney would be perfect for that role... Damn it seems like Shia is in everything these days, hey nothing wrong with that he is really the only kid around his age that can act that good. He was the best part of Transformers, I liked him in INDY 4 except the monkey scene, Disturbia was a good B movie, Greatest Game Ever Played was surprisingly really good. I am looking forward to Eagle Eye and I cant wait to see him play Yorik in the Y The Last Man trilogy if it gets made.
