Warner Bros. Plans Dark Knight Rerelease

September 11, 2008

Warner Bros. Pictures plans to rerelease blockbuster The Dark Knight in January, the height of Academy Awards voting season, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a source told the trade.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with IMAX executives about the prospect of restoring the film to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if The Dark Knight also will reappear in conventional theaters at that point.

To date, the film has earned about $513 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in IMAX grosses. The DVD and Blu-ray Disc are expected to hit stores in December.

Playing in theaters the month after DVD/Blu-ray release? Bad move? Maybe they should release the DVD in late december but that would be a pretty long wait. I guess the most hardcore fans will see it anyway in Jan.

All right, now I'll get to see it again on the big screen. Hopefully the academy will finally accept that TDK is the best film of the year and award it as such.

Go Batman GO!

Is this film Oscar worthy? I think it could garner a nomination but doesnt deserve to win there are a few things that werent so great about the film (such as pacing problems, too many subplots) But YES it does deserve a nomination for best picture, score, cinematography, and supporting actor AT LEAST. This movie did in fact redefine a genre in a time when most movies are remakes and fluff. After all lets not forget STAR WARS was nominated for best picture when it was released and this movie is alot better than the star wars by far...
