Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2, Kick-Ass

During an interview for his new action bonanza Bangkok Dangerous, Oscar-winner and perennial strange-on-screen-hairdo connoisseur Nicolas Cage let slip about a few of his upcoming comic book films.

First up, he discussed a sequel to last year's Columbia Pictures and Marvel release, Ghost Rider.

Cage: Yes, actually, had a nice meeting with the studio about 3-months ago, and we talked about going international with that character. Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he's connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with "The Da Vinci Code" and things like that.

Cage also discussed working with Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) on the adaptation of Mark Millar's comic series Kick-Ass, which is about a kid who always wanted to be a superhero.

Cage: As I continue working in film I want to try to keep it as organic and honest as possible, and I am that kid. I’m the kid that would dress up like a superhero, sneak out of the house at 10 o’clock at night, jump around pretending I was fighting crime. It was a good match because it's definitely sincere. I play a guy named Damon, the father of Mindy who is "Hit Girl" and I'm "Big Daddy," and I'm training my daughter to be a superhero.

I say go with Dan Ketch for Ghost Rider 2. Cage ruined Johnny Blaze for me. Though perhaps he would be suited for Kick-A$$.

Yes to GR2, even if the premise sounds awful and completely unecessary.

I may be in the minority here but GR wasnt that bad of a film...it wasnt great but it wasnt as bad as many people are saying. It had its dark tone and the special effects were decent.
But that whole GR going to Europe sounds whack!!!

Ghost Rider doesnt deserve a sequel, it also needs a complete overhaul because it was a terrible comic adaptation that will go down in all time worsts of film history. Mark Steven Johnson did a terrible job.

Marvel needs to reboot GR, and it would've been amazing if Guillermo del Torro directed Ghost Rider.

First off, NC does not need to make anymore half-ass comic book adaptations. Secondly, he should focus on another national treasure...at least his narrow acting skills were able to thrive in the first two NT movies.

Please, no more Ghost Rider flicks. That kind of film is the worst kind of hackjob: the kind that makes mediocre fare like Iron Man, Hulk 2 or FF2 (my picks - everyone has a pet peeve when it comes to lame movies, heh?) look "decent" in comparison. Lowering standards as they do, I wouldn't be surprised if they greenlight it though.

As for Bangkok Dangerous I just saw it and it was an interesting movie. No joke; a good blend of westernized action and asian feeling. I know the movie has a bad rap (from people who haven't seen it) but it's actually more than just killings and money shots. A nice gritty thriller with some awkward romance and a terrific ending.

The major problem with Ghost Rider (besides Nick Cages terrible Elvis Presley voice) was that it didn't seem to know if it was original Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider, or new Ghost Rider, Daniel Ketch. Johnny Blaze was an old man in the new comics. The movie was so lame, and I was prepared for it to be. I was told that it sucked and I still could not believe how much they missed the mark. They need someone much younger for Ghost Rider, and it should be R-rated. P.S. Bangkok Dangerous looks retarded, almost as bad looking as the preview for Babylon A.D.
