UPDATE: The post mentioned below has been removed and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" writer Stephen Murphy wrote on his Blog that "This is complete nonsense and entirely untrue."

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman has confirmed the rumors that Imagi and Warner Bros. are in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters. He posted the following at HeavyMetal.com:

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film--like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right--but no official word yet...will keep you posted. Best, Kevin

The CG-animated movie TMNT, which was released in March of 2007, earned $95 million worldwide compared to its $34 million budget.

Yeah buddy! This would be cool! With all the 'dark' stories being told nowadays that copy of Batman Begins, imagine seeing a 'darker' live action TMNT...that would seriously rock...wonder if they'll go back to Jim Henson's studio to do the costumes again...oh, and get Corey Feldman back for the voices...one more thing..FIRST!!!!!!!!!!

First, they should never have made the animated flick from a creative/nostalgic perspective. Obviously, it had its economic benefits to the company. Secondly, every studio press release you read these days says, " we are turning all of our movies around and making it like batman. every movie from here on out will be dark...like batman". But why? if anything to make a movie like batman is to say make it good. Put some thought into it. Dont make it like batman.

I've been hoping they'd do a live action TMNT again. But I'll hold judgment either way until more is done. It could be really good, or it could suck ass. Way too early to say.

My one fear is that Hollywood's going to over do the "Re start and make it dark" thing and kill it.

Now if it's dark just for the sake of being dark, then that's just misguided. However, if we're talking the gritty, Frank Miller-esque bonanza of the original stories then I'm all for it.

However, one of the things I liked about the animated version was that it moved forward with the characters beyond Shredder. Nothing against the Shredder, but it was pleasant for a change.

But a big triumphant return is never a bad thing.

WoodenCorpse: Did you ever read the original comics? They WERE dark.

That said, I really enjoyed TMNT (the animated movie) and wish they would just continue from there. argh

TMNT was the worst cartoon I've ever watched in the theatre. I was bored out of my mind. please make a live action version and make it as much fun as the old ones.
