Snowden and White Penning Poltergeist Remake

August 19, 2008

Boogeyman scribes Juliet Snowden and Stiles White will write the screenplay for MGM's planned remake of Poltergeist, the 1982 horror film that was directed by Tobe Hooper and produced/co-written by Steven Spielberg.

The MGM/UA release grossed $122 million worldwide and earned Oscar nominations for its ILM-designed visual effects, sound effects and score.

The story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook earned further cult status when two of the child actors in the movie died after the film's release. Two sequels were produced.

Snowden and White have also had a hand in the remake of The Birds and co-wrote the upcoming Knowing.

WHY?!

This is by far the most unnecessary remake in film history. The original CANNOT be topped, ever.

Nuts... is Hollywood so bankrupt for ideas ? Caught in an endless loop of rehashed ideas. Somebody said that there are only 12 scripts in Hollywood and every film made is just a slight variation of one of those. Seems like that number is dropping.

OK OK.
This might be the worst idea for a remake ever. The original is just so great. Why ruin it? Why scar us for life?

I cannot wait for the Gone with the Wind/ Wizard of Oz remakes with Christian Bale in both.

*sigh* There are plenty of mediocre movies that can be remade. Why do the classics Hollywood?

I seriously question the descision of this. I grew up with this movie which was my first (and favorite) horror flick. Remakes generally, I'm "OK" with. But there are a few movies out there that simply CANNOT and MUST NOT be remade! This is definately one of them. Like "qboyrob" said, "What's next? Gone With the Wind and Wizard of Oz?" Come on guys! This is a classic that can't be touched! With today's technology with the ghosts, will ruin the the classic simplicity that we've all grown to love.

Please don't do this!

Ditto, I'm usually cool with freshening older movies if it's done right but they need to leave Poltergeist alone. It is my all-time favorite horror flick and the only one that still forces me to leave the lights on when I watch it, it scared the hell out of me and I love it.

This just in from Hollywood...... Execs are planning a remake of Gigli for a September 2009 release, and on October 2009 a remake of that remake again.

Poltergeist, among with The Shining and The Exorcist, are among some of the movies that people should stay the **** away from when it comes to remaking them. It will end up like with The Omen remake, smudging the reputation and name of a classic movie with a pointless and unnecessary attempt to cash in on the legacy. Leave those movies alone. What's next..A Star Wars remake with Shia as Luke? What about Alien? Lets remake that, but lets put in a blond bombshell as the heroine instead. Lets remake Godfather too, What about John Goodman as the Don? STOP IT!

God damnit. No respect for the classics.
