Cruise, Spyglass in Talks for The Tourist

Variety reports that Tom Cruise and Spyglass Entertainment are circling each other on The Tourist, the Bharat Nalluri-directed remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer.

The film has emerged as the strongest contender for Cruise's next film, and his first star vehicle since the Bryan Singer-directed Valkyrie at United Artists.

Written by Gosford Park scribe Julian Fellowes, the thriller concerns an American tourist who finds his life in danger when a female Interpol agent uses him as a dupe to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Spyglass principals Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Canal Plus.

Cruise has been careful in weighing his next film, and the trade adds that his participation in The Tourist hasn't solidified.

If Cruise takes this role, it will shut up all his crtics and he will win an academy award for best actor. And this no lie!..He will be nominated for best supporting actor for his role in Tropic Thunder.

Just to answer Kaw's question. They had to shoot extra war scenes for the movie Valkyrie. Thats why its being delayed for a second time. If you read or someone tells you different. They have no idea what they are talking about. Threy have a vendetta against Cruise because of The couch incident and scientoligy

If anyone in Tropic Thunder is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, it'll be Downey, Jr. As praised as Cruise's cameo may be, it's still a cameo.

Ho Hum...Whatever. He usually puts out a "Tom Cruise" performance and nothing really different. A few standout roles the rest is just movie star nonsense to me.

I hope he picks this over that Food Fight movie, this seems like a much better film. I think the comeback is here, Tropic Thunder and Valkyrie should do it, I hope he follows it up well.
