Chris Columbus to Direct Robert F. Kennedy Film

Variety says that Chris Columbus will direct a feature about Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential run. Columbus and his 1492 Productions have acquired screen rights to the Thurston Clarke book "The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America."

Columbus will produce with 1492 partners Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. Columbus will write the script solo or invite another screenwriter to work with him, adds the trade.

Kennedy's idealistic campaign, which focused squarely on poverty, racism and ending the unpopular Vietnam War, resonated with Columbus and his 1492 partners. While losing his iconic brother made him wary of crowds, Kennedy refused to insulate himself from the public during his run.

I know that Chris Columbus wants more dramatic films under his filmography credits, but, I want to when is he going to finish shooting "I Love You, Beth Cooper" so we can get a first look at it. I'm a fan of the book, that's why I'm asking.

I was just reading Vanity Fair's recent article on RFK, and again realizing that the Estevez effort 'Bobby' really wasn't enough on our potentially greatest president. So this is decent news, and I'm crossing my fingers.

I wonder who will play RFK. IIRC, he's already been played by John Shea, Martin Sheene (who also played JFK, of course), Steven Culp and Kevin Anderson among others. Can't think of any name actors who suit the role.

Estevez' Bobby was okay, but RFK wasn't really central to it - though the most compelling scenes were the footage of his speeches.

They should get the guy that played him in Thirteen Days. He was perfect.

I guess we'll see how this turns out.. I'm sure it will inevitably have right-wing media pundits bashing it before one bit of dialogue is written..

The perfect person to play him is a man by the name of Steven Culp
His performance as Bobby in Thirteen Days was excellent

I think Casey Affleck would make a good Robert Kennedy. Both are small, scrappy people. Compare photos of the two. Of course just age Affleck a bit.
