Update: Brad Pitt Officially Joins Inglorious Bastards

Brad Pitt has closed his deal to star in Inglorious Bastards, the WWII drama that Quentin Tarantino will direct for the Weinstein Company and Universal, reports Variety.

Additionally, Nastassja Kinski is in early talks to play one of the sole female roles in the film. Kinski would play a German movie queen.

The trade says much of the dialogue is in French or German, and subtitles will be used, though Pitt will speak English in his role as a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis.

Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz and B.J. Novak are also in talks to join the project. Pegg would play a British lieutenant, while Krumholtz and Novak would play Pitt's underlings.

The film begins production on October 13 in Germany. Tarantino, who wrote the script, is aiming to complete the film and have it ready for next year's Cannes Film Festival. Lawrence Bender is producing, with Erica Steinberg and Harvey and Bob Weinstein as executive producers.

Eli Roth will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, and Tarantino is locking in the other actors to play the soldiers who make up the Bastards team. Tarantino regular Tim Roth had been in contention to join the cast but couldn't work out the scheduling because of his upcoming TV series "Lie to Me."

I am not sure if this is a good thing. I think Pitt is a little bit too Hollywood for a Tarantino flick. And the cast is already sucking, due to the involvement of that hack director and s**t actor Eli Roth.

Pitt too Hollywood? Just like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction?

I agree with Eli, its complete bull****. I think Pitt could help save this movie though. He is a really good actor and I'm interested in seeing what Tarantino does with a WW2 film. I am a fan of his work because I take his projects for what they are, some people read too much into them. He isn't a director for everyone but this film could be **** or could be great, either way it will be interesting

Anything Tarantino is involved in should be good. He has not disappointed me yet... Well maybe with Jackie Brown.

John Travolta wasn't too Hollywood at the time. He usually was more involved with smaller movies that became huge successes. And one of the reasons he did the movie was in need for a comeback. As far as I can see, Pitt is in no need of a comeback. But hopefully he will be good.

I love DT's first comment. Specifically the part about "...the cast is already sucking, due to the involvement of that hack director...". I mean, that hack director wrote the damn movie and without him there would be no Inglorious Bastards. Indeed, Tarantino is not a writer/director for everyone, but he has made some pretty awesome movies. Not sure how I feel about Eli "scratch moded" Roth's being in the movie, but I'll wait around to find out. As for Brad Pitt...I can't tell you how happy I am that he's in this one. He may be a big star, but he still likes to take risky projects and those are often his better performances (case-in-point: Fight Club). And I thought i read somewhere on here or Empire.com that Tim Roth was going to be in this movie...am i off-base?

Actually Justin he was referring to Eli Roth as the hack director/**** actor. Not Tarantino.
