George Lucas invited press to visit his Big Rock ranch in San Francisco where he unveiled the brand-new theatrical release, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The film, set between "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith," returns to some familiar characters with a less-than-familiar look. Rendered in a stylized 3-D, Lucas explained that one of the primary influences for the film was the classic 1960's marionette show, "Thunderbirds".

Primarily the story of Anakin Skywalker and his new apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, the theatrical release is designed as a launching point for the upcoming CG-animated series, set to debut on Cartoon Network in October.

ComingSoon.net talked with director Dave Filoni and producer Catherine Winder about their decidedly non-traditional take on the "Star Wars" universe which will hit the big screen this Friday.

God I hope this doesn't suck. If it does well, I think this style and take on the Star Wars galaxy would be a great way to reimagine the original trilogy and fix everything that was wrong with the new one. IF it's good.

Or, alternatively, use your head and don't listen to people who have no idea what they're talking about, like rambling, bumbling, clueless naysayers.

Anyhoo, in my opinion it looks great. Can't wait for the movie and the show. This is such a great universe and I'm happy they're still exploring it. Sounds like an interesting story too. Gonna be awsome.

WHY ALL HATERS JUST TALK LUCAS: "HE SHOULD STOP THAT" OH, NO.

YOUR SHOULD WHAT IS COMING or already:

Terminator tv-serie. They didn`t respect original story but still fans love this ****!
Terminator 4.

Smallville. Same thing like Terminator.
Superman Returns.

Hobbit. Not gonna beat LOTR trilogy.

Get Smart
James Bond 23. Casino Royale even didn`t feel that is James Bond

And many others.

But. The Clone Wars and Live action Star Wars tv-serie. Lucas keep all his control so they respect SW "mytology"

Well I would have rathered a CD Star Wars more along the line of Beowulf-ish style; however, as the Star Wars universe is based on story telling; I'll save my reserves once I see it. I have complete faith in Lucas' ability to churn out excellent stuff

Either make Star Wars VII - IX while the actors are still alive or GO AWAY George.

Milking a dead cow.

Lets see another release of the movies in HD next.

Already is meant to be making the original films in to 3D now.

Followed by them being released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Exactly how much money do you need Lucas...?

Glad to see this coming out. For all those pushing The Clone Wars down - I'd reccomend giving it a try before you say that. Having watched the premiere - I can say it's absolutely beautiful. The clips you see online is what they're showing in the theater WITHOUT any textures and render. Trust me - it's good.

As for episode 7-9. It won't happen because Ford doesn't want to reprise Han - and the saga was about Anakin Skywalker.

Trust me, give it a try in the theaters when it opens later this week - it's really great ;)
