First Look at The Road

Dimension Films and MGM have provided us with six photos from The Road, opening in theaters on November 14.

Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and 12-year-old Kodi Smit McPhee star in director John Hillcoat's big-screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. It is the story of a man (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world.

I love the book and I expect to love the movie, considering the fact that the guy who did The Proposition did this.

Great book, but I'm not quite sure how it'll translate to screen. Nothing like No Country in terms of being cinematic.

Oh, and this is by no means the first photo. I've seen at least 2, at least one in Entertainment Weekly. Just saying.

Read the script...it was on the 2007 Black List.

Have to say it was quite a BORING script.

The author/cast alone struck my interest, but I wasn't aware that this was the next project of the director of The Proposition. It was one of those films that you either saw or never heard of, and you were better for seeing it. It brought a icky, disturbing, bleak vision to a genre that had gone stale. While 3:10 To Yuma and Assassination of Jesse James brought acclaim and mainstream revival to the western, I credit Proposition for being the true "neo-western".

Should be a fine picture.

The Road was such an affecting novel... I still can't get it out of my mind a year after reading. Viggo is perfect casting, so I'm hopeful for the film, hopeful that they don't dwell too long on some of the horrors... they'll need to be part of it of course, but it's the journey that matters.
