Jackie Chan is The Spy Next Door

August 5, 2008

Jackie Chan is set to star in The Spy Next Door, an action-comedy to be financed by Relativity Media and directed by veteran studio helmer Brian Levant, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Robert Simonds, a longtime comedy producer on such movies as The Pink Panther and the Adam Sandler films The Wedding Singer and Big Daddy, will produce. Solon So will executive produce. Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh will produce, and Tucker Tooley will executive produce.

Jonathan Bernstein and Jim Greer are writing the screenplay for "Spy," which centers on a man (Chan) who is called to baby-sit his neighbor's children and winds up having to fight off secret agents after one of the kids inadvertently downloads a secret code.

This film doesn't sound to good, but being the huge Jackie Chan fan that I am, I'll probably go and see it. The story line is definately unimaginative. I guess Hollywood believes the rest of America is brain dead.

Yea the concept does sound like it can be a sequel to The Pacifier. I just hope there is am American director who can show how talented Jackie Chan is instead of watering down his talents like most of the American films he's starred in has. As far as what Meckjocks says about what Hollyweird thinks about their audience, that's just the problem. When you sit up in your office and play golf all day, you're pretty much clueless as to what people want to see. There are talented writers out there (sadly only a small group are employed) but their work gets watered down so that they can satisfy a larger audience (larger audience = $$). If only they realized everything isn't for everybody, there wouldn't be so many **** films out there.

Sounds like Chan does Disney. Like you guys, my mind went straight to The Pacifier, and how it sounds like a sequel. But, this should be interesting. I'm a Jackie Chan fan, so I'll watch anything with him in it. (yes, even Burn Hollywood, Burn.)
