Cage and Carpenter Team for Scared Straight

Nicolas Cage and director John Carpenter are in final negotiations to team up for a prison thriller titled Scared Straight, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Nu Image/Millennium Films would finance the film and is in negotiations with Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson along with Randall Emmett and George Furla to produce. Avi Lerner also would produce.

"Straight" follows a troubled youth who's sent to prison off the Scared Straight crime-prevention program, which imprisons delinquent teens for a short period in the hopes of deterring them from a life of crime. While the teen is there, a riot breaks out and the prisoners take him hostage. A lifer, played by Cage, is forced to help the young man out.

Joe Gazzam wrote the original spec script, which was rewritten by Ron Brinkerhoff. Noah Rosen is executive producing as is Rob Cohen, who was attached to direct at one point.

An October start is being eyed.

I'm a Carpenter fan...(well, of his old stuff anyway), but the dude has lost his filmmaking mojo a long time ago. His last attempts at filmmaking has been sad and terrible, so I feel a bit sorry Nic Cage as he's probably about to make a bad movie.

...I'd like to be proven wrong though. It's about damn time Carpenter got back on the horse.

The premis sounds really cool and the fact that the lengend John carpenter is behind is a much added bonus. And I will bet the bank that Cage will have that same look from Con Air.

YEAH! John Carpenter is returning to the big screen. I love Halloween its the best horror movie in the world. The remake sucks- I wanted my money back. But I just love his Halloween movie I watch it every Halloween with the lights completely off, and my door shut in my room, makes it more suspenseful. Im looking forward to seeing what he has come up with. Im sure it wont compare to his classic Halloween but it might be good.
