SDCC: Dean Koontz Says Odd Thomas Movie in the Works

Novelist Dean Koontz told San Diego Comic-Con attendees on Saturday that he now as a movie script adapted from his book "Odd Thomas" in hand and he's very pleased with the results. Koontz also teased that an unnamed actor has signed on to play the title character, but he clammed up before spilling his identity, much to the chagrin of the panel audience.

Koontz added that after reading the script, which was written by an unnamed screenwriter, he 'fell over' because it was 'so perfect.'

"Odd Thomas" tells the story of the title character – a fry cook whose life flies very low on the societal radar. However, Odd has a gift… the ability to communicate with the dead. The book was published in 2003 and Koontz has since followed it up with three other Odd-centric books. He told Con-goers that the Odd Thomas tales will wrap as a set of seven books.

"I know how it ends," said Koontz. "But I don't know how he gets there yet."

Koontz did not reveal any time table for production of the Odd Thomas movie.

i myself cannot wait for this movie to come out. i am so miffed that i missed his panel on Saturday when i was there at SDCC. he has a dedicated odd thomas fan and it all started out by rading his manga "In Odd We Trust." i can guarantee you that fromhow he says the script was to the book, that this movie is going to be kick @$$ ( not sure about swearing on here). i will be sad at the ending of the movie and that is saying a lot coming from someone who doesn't get sad but that book in general had me feeling bad for Odd. even though he lost what was precious to him, and continued to live on like he was without her; i will follow Odd through the rest of his adventures hoping he gets what he deserves...his love back. and to the person under the name of "IjustDRANKa40" don't be putting things down at all when they haven't even come out yet. keep your mouth shut and clamped until you seen it. so until you are proven right in your own little world that it will be such a horrible movie as you claim it be even though you never even seen the script at all, go troll elsewhere and leave your crabby@$$ attitude on their sites where no one cares about your pessimistic opinions.

I have been a Dean Koontz fan since my aunt handed me a beat up copy of Watchers when I was 12. That was 19 years ago. I have read almost every book he has written and can't find one I don't love. But Odd is just something special, even more so than his other characters. My concern is that this movie adaptation will end up a mangled version of this wonderful story. Let's face it, Dean has had some crap luck in this department. But I was heartened to read that he loved the script. This gives me hope for Odd's movie debut. I can say that I will gladly make my way to the cinema to get a glimpse of what I hope to be Dean's breakthrough feature film adaptation. I'm also VERY curious as to the identity of this actor who has supposedly signed on to portray our beloved Odd one. I hope he knows that a large portion of the public will be unforgiving if his performance isn't just right. Loop us in, Dean!!! We need to know who this guy is!

I am now reading Brother Odd and I ve become a real fan of Odd Thomas. I am really looking forward to the movie! I think that Paul Dano (remember him in There will be blood, where he played that real "odd" priest)!! should play Odd. I think he would be the best choice cause he has the looks and talent to play that somewhat troubled, weird but kind of sweet character of odd thomas.

I too read only Dean Koontz. I just finsished Brother Odd and just found out there is another book, so I'm off to find that one. I would like to see more movies made by Koontz, even if they only went to DVD. I would love to have them. I think he is an awesome writer.

I am so excited to hear that there is an Odd Thomas movie coming soon. I love pretty much anything that Dean comes out with but Odd takes the cake.
I've been going through the names that have been suggested for Odd and I think that James McAvoy is the best with Jim Sturgess for 2nd place.
And about Stormy... I always thought she was Black (well, more of a "Caramel" colouring). I never pictured her as a white woman so when I saw Zooey Deschanel for Stormy I was confused. Then I saw Dilshad Vadsaria mentioned; she's more how I pictured Stormy.
