SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

kinda thought they would get somebody bigger in size... this guy looks fit, but Cap is the very peak of human capability on the soldier serum.

Mark Valley (Brad Chase from Boston legal) would be great capt. America. :D

But, Barrowman is also great choice.

No way man, Captain America should be played by Alan Rickman. Or wait, nevermind, I'm thinking of Capt Britain, lol. And Im thinking of Jean Reno, not Alan Rickman, hahaha. But nah seriously, Alan Rickman was born to pay Hawkeye.

I've alwasy thought of him as cap. jack

Yes, John Barrowman is Scottish but he spent most of his youth living in the United States. I didn't hear anyone complaining about his nationality when he was cast as the lead tenor in The Producers. This guy did an excellent job during his five episodes of Doctor Who 2005 Series 1, the three he did for Series 3 and the two he did for Series 4. He's carried the weight of Torchwood for two seasons and will do so again for the third. He would make an excellent Captain America.

No one is "making" the CHARACTER anything Andrew, relax. A Brit played Batman and an Aussie played the Joker, what's wrong with that? Other people get cast for "American" roles all the time.
