SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

I love Torchwood, I love Captin Jack hell I even love John Barrowman. But I'm not completely sure he is right for the part.

I think they need to change the name to just Captain America. The First Avenger part is stupid for a movie and is more like a comic title.

So Captain America stands for freedom and what is right. I would have thought that would be a good reason for casting the best person for the job, regardless of sexuality - or race for that matter.

Sad to see so many homophobic comments on here. This is 2008, dont you have better things to address or are you starting to buy into the dark heart of American reality ?

no no no no no no no no no no no no no no he is faaaaaarrrrrrrrr to camp. And don't start pointing the finger at me calling me homophobic. Bull. But that would such sooooooooo bad. He's a cool guy. Give him a big budget film break but plllllleeeeaaaasssseee don't make him Captain America.
I'd rather Matt Damon. Or how about that guys from The Kingdom/Juno/Hancock.

He's a great actor, but he's completely wrong for Captain America. Wrong build, wrong voice, wrong color hair. With the direction Marvel seems to be going in casting, I don't think they would cast him as Cap. He would, however, be great in some other role in the film. He's great at the WW2 officer mannerisms and his image fits the era. While he's a little old to play Bucky, I could see him as someone in Cap's platoon.

Fits the “look” – but a terrible actor. Yes I have seen Torchwood (fan of the show).
