SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

As long as he can pull of "Avengers Assemble" and give us goosebumps, I'll watch him.

Don't get me wrong, I really like John on Torchwood. He's terrific when the script calls for him to be sexy and funny and charming--which is most of the time on that show.

But John's acting skills seem a bit limited when it comes to the powerhouse emotional scenes. He simply doesn't do them justice. At all.

So unless he has a fantastic and demanding director (which he rarely seems to have had on Torchwood), John's acting prowess may not be up to the dramatic requirements of a big-screen lead role.

Wow, would never in a million years think of barrowman for cap. Torchwood is quality and those who know nothing of it need to check it out. He needs to shake the shackles of bad "talent show judge" mould for definate and this could propel him to incredible heights. Im not as shocked as i thought i would be...interesting choices have been working well as of late, good sign?

John Barrowman is awesome. That is all. Just the fact that he got a meeting is thrilling. Maybe studios are finally realizing that sexual orientation shouldn't matter and it should be about what they can do onscreen.

no way. Good actor, I've seen him act plenty in a Tom Cruise kinda way action flair (even looks). But it would be hard to distinguish between his sexual preference and that of the character.

Did you guys know a Welshman plays the current Batman? Who cares if John B. was born in Scotland?

Well I'm sort of happy. I'd prefer Jensen Ackles of Supernatural, but at least it's not Leonardo DiCrapio. Also think about this Christian Bale was not a household name until Batman, along with Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, and I heard Chris Reeves wasn't well known either until Superman came along. So maybe he'll work he kind of looks the part.

"According to sources, hell even pictures, the dude is ****sexual (openly).

So, I don't think he may be right for Capt America unless he can pull off amazing acting."

Yeah, I had some serious doubts about Daniel Craig as James Bond. After all, the guy has never been a spy, how is he supposed to be convincing if he has no real-life experience?

Way to miss the whole point of acting, which is to pretend something you're not!
