SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

If you've not seen him, don't start with Torchwood, start with The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, Hugo winning episodes of Dr. Who that introduced him.

Terrible news. This project deserves "Star Power". You get Downey for Iron Man, Edward Norton for Hulk, and this guy???

Can't see him stacking up with them on The Avengers shoot.

I have been a faithful Torchwood follower since it's inception and I think he would definitley bring the Captain America charachter some fuel and flair. Go get em' John WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO.

I could see Captain Jack as Captain America. I could also see Sean Bean as Union Jack if a film was ever made on that comic.

This could be the best casting for a superhero movie since Hugh Jackson. Watch his Doctor Who episodes, watch Torchwood. The guy's brilliant. And he's already proved he can handle action.
