SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

I love how people assume John is either not American because he lives and works in the UK, or that he isn't Scottish because he's got an American accent. He's Scottish by birth, American by law. How? He immigrated here as a kid when his father's company transferred him to the States. The accent is something he cultivated as a survival thing as a kid because other kids made fun and bullied him as a result of his Scottish accent. He's then made his name w/ the American accent.

As for the role of Captain America, well, even if he's offered the role, will he be able to fit it into his oh so busy schedule? THAT will be the key to him playing it. Oh, and as for the whole Harry Potter comment, well, not many non-British actors can pull off the accents based on where it all takes place. I know of a few who can though. You might know them already: James Marsters and Alexis Denisof.

And as for the hair color? Take a look at clips or photos of him in 'The Producers'. He's platinum blonde in the film. Oh, and btw, the man is 41. How old does Captain America have to be?

Will Smith would have been a better choice in my opinion. But, we'll see.....

As an American fan of both Doctor Who and Torchwood, I personally think John Barrowman would definitely be an inspired choice for Captain America.

In fact, after watching him on Torchwood, I definitely thought he'd be a great Captain America, given the determined leadership he displays as Captain Jack Harkness.

i wouldnt care whether it was will smith, jackie chan or john barrowman playing captain america. as long as they acted the role well, and im sure that any other non-prejudiced person would agree with me.

You gotta laugh. John Barrowman has a snowball's chance in hell of landing this role for a number of very obvious reasons. Most of the posts that point out why have been deleted, leaving the forum to the Who and Barrowman fanboys and political activists, who are quite obviously not Cap fans.

Well done Comingsoon, this forum is hilarious.

Will Smith WOULD make an excellent Capt. America, how small minded of you to think otherwise. He is one of our generation's finest actors and musicians. He's the whole package. If the director follows a Sweeney Todd like format (a kinda dark musical) this move will have potential.

Lets not forget the criticism that Nolan and WB took FROM fanboys for casting Health Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight after his performance in Brokeback Mountain, I'll let the box office numbers and Oscar buzz for Ledger speak for the end result... Oh, and I do believe that a few fanboys changed their mind after seeing his performance...

Personally, I think Nathan Fillion, the guy from Firefly, would be a good Cap. Doesn't matter to me though. As long as the guy playing cap doesn't reek of douchebag and the film is set entirely during WW2, I'm there.

He's a great actor, like Zacupquark said start with Dr. Who episodes like the season one Finale as well as the episodes he said. In Torchwood he shines!!!!
