SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?

John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.

He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.

What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.

The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

I thought he was Bisexual (I didn't see the point of the stars since that is not a rude word). I would usually ask what difference that would make but his personal mannerisms don't really fit the character. I suppose he is an actor though so maybe those wont show through as much as usual.

John Barrowman is massively popular here in the UK. He's about the most popular American over here. The character of Captain Jack Harkness is actually pretty similar to that of Captain America and he would do it brilliantly.

I think he would make a fantastic Captain America, I am an avid fan of his from Doctor Who and Torchwood. Unfortunately I don't think the studio would cast him because of his sexual orientation, which is unfortunate because he really is a great actor. I just don't think the American public is mature enough (generally speaking of course) for this type of thing, however he could always do Captain Britain or Guardian (Alpha Flight movie would be wicked).

Alright, I've seen some videos of Torchwood, including his Music Videos...

He's good, don't get me wrong, but I need more convincing...

So, I'ma have to sit down and watch a Full episode of Torchwood to see if I can get a better reaction from him.
