Tim Burton Casts His Alice

Tim Burton and Walt Disney Pictures are in final talks with Australian actress Mia Wasikowska to star in Alice in Wonderland, Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy novel, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, based on a script by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King), will be produced by longtime Burton collaborator Richard Zanuck, former Disney chairman Joe Roth and Jennifer and Suzanne Todd. It will be shot with live-action and performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D.

Wasikowska got her start on the Aussie series "All Saints" and is a regular on HBO's "In Treatment." She next will appear opposite Daniel Craig in Ed Zwick's war drama Defiance and just completed filming the role of a young Amelia Earhart fan in Mira Nair's biopic Amelia starring Hilary Swank.

Principal photography starts in November.

They need to stop making "G" rated AIW's and make a "R" rated version based on the video game "Alice"

Burton and AIW sound like a perfect match up. It'd be cool to see some of the trippy stuff in "what dreams may come" in this movie.

Cool I love Tim Burton- maybe you see the Irony in that statement from my screenname. He has the coolest movies. I have an Idea for who could play the evil Queen of Hearts. Hint Hint,
she is very close to Tims heart.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was nothing like a horror movie... in fact it was rated PG.

To be honest I liked the new version better than the older version. The old one gives me headaches when I watch it.

Many moons ago we hear that American McGee's Alice is being turned into a movie. Next we hear Tim Burton may direct it. Later that Sarah Michelle Gellar will play Alice. Now we haven't heard a word on that project in years, except that Burton is apparently doing his own AIW, not affiliated with the darker Alice game at all. If that first project is still in development hell at all, this will be direct competition.

Curious to see what Burton will do with the original Twisted Fantasy but I agree with John that it would be cooler to see the American McGee version put to film.
