Phillip Noyce has come onboard to develop a remake of the classic swashbuckler "Captain Blood" for Warner Bros. with an eye toward directing.

Warner is developing "Captain Blood" as a possible U.K./Australian co-production. Bill Gerber is producing.

Errol Flynn starred in the 1935 original, directed by Michael Curtiz, as a doctor wrongly sentenced to slavery in the Caribbean, where he and his comrades become avenging pirates. It was nominated for the best picture Oscar.

Noyce has also been attached to direct "Edwin A. Salt," the Kurt Wimmer-scripted thriller that Columbia Pictures has been developing.

Yes you do, you look stupid for trying to make fun of people who say first. Hop off that bandwagon chum, it doesn't make you a cool kid.

I'll check out another pirate movie, why not? Pirates, revenge, a guy named Captain Blood... sounds like it's all there to me.

I don't foresee this being good compared to the original. I recommend the Errol Flynn version. That and the ORIGINAL Day the Earth Stood Still......classic movoes!!

More remakes...the cinema must be dying to purloin the original creations. Desperate and unimaginative.

For people *****ing about remakes, trust me, if that $150+ million it costs to produce, market and distribute a movie was yours, you wouldn't be looking to spend your money on an unproven, "original", kooky and wildly imaginative intellectual property. The first thing you'd be asking is "What's sold in the past? I want to make sure I make my money back."

So quit your *****ing.

I don't like remakes just as much as the next person, but I'm tired of people acting like this is new for hollywood and they are running out of ideas. Hollywood has been remaking movies since the the begining.

For Example: The Maltese Falcon, The novel has been filmed three times in a span of ten years, twice under its original title:

The Maltese Falcon (1931), the first version, pre-Code production starring Ricardo Cortez and Bebe Daniels
Satan Met a Lady (1936), a light-comedy adaptation starring Bette Davis and Warren William, with Sam Spade becoming "Ted Shane".
The Maltese Falcon (1941) the third version, considered to be a film noir classic, starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, and Sydney Greenstreet.

I have no problem remaking a movie in 2008 that was made in 1938. My problem is when you start remaking classic movies that are only 10,20,30,40 years old.

I mean certain movies shouldn't be touched. The Godfather I and II(they need to burn three and remake it), Star Wars the original Trilogy, Clockwork Organge, etc...

yes, J-Son is right. I hate remakes, and it really annoys me how Hollywood is just churning out remake after remakes (often very unnecessary ones). However, Hollywood has been remaking films for decades now.

J-Son provided some examples and here's further one:

The original "Captain Blood" didn't star Errol Flynn, it stared J. Warren Kerrigan and was released in the early 1920s (1924 I believe). Michael Curtiz then directed the Errol Flynn version in 1935. I think it was remade some afterwards as well.

but again, I despise remakes, and I think that it's really sad that many struggling, creative writers can't break it into the business while others are just sitting around and mining a studio's vault for remakes. Sad. Really sad.

OK, this is the most disappointing news for a HUGE Errol Flynn Fan. Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk are two of the best pirate/swashbuckler movies of all times. Remakes are getting old. Whats next the Wizard of Oz? Gone with the Wind? Casablanca (even though I can't stand Bogey)

There are only 40 or so original stories everything else is rehashed. If Broadway can keep rehashing Nine, The Phantom, etc. Why can't movie studios?
