ComingSoon.net caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg on Tuesday and learned that George Lucas is looking to repurpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3D format.

Katzenberg told us that Lucas is very excited about it and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this soon.

The last time I looked, Lukas wasn't sending Storm Troopers to you whiner's houses and herding you off to the theaters to watch his stuff. If it didn't make money he wouldn't be making it (or remaking it).
Next, you would be hard pressed to find a successful movie in the past few years that wasn't either a remake, clone or another episode of previously made movies. Originality? Nobocy in HWood ever heard of the word. Batman is a complete remake of a previous episode, including Joker as the villain. Yet it has broken all movie records so far. Shreks all sell $250 mil plus, as do further episodes of Potter, Pirates, Indy, Superman, etc.
So all the whining about milking the cow is BS. It is not the cow, it is the Golden Goose and as long as it lays Golden eggs, it won't be served up for dinner itself.
Last but not least, the philosophy around here, if used on autos, would have us all turning a crank to fire up our Model-T's.
Taking the same movie and converting it to the lastest technology offers it to newer generations of movie goers who expect the latest and greatest technologies.
That is why almost everyone's home movie libraries are now DVD instead of VHS or Betamax now. The image and sound is better and will get better yet when converted again to HD-DVD or whatever the next new home theater technology is. That may ultimately include 3-D & maybe 3-D IMAX for those with home theaters that can use it. If not then virtual reality helmets that will allow YOU to become part of the movie if you wish. Who knows. Will you all be whining when the Batman ans Superman episodes are converted to 3-D IMAX and rereleased?
I bet not.
So if you don't like Lukas movies, don't go. It is still a free country, at least until NOBama becomes King/messiah/Tsar.

Point is... Lucas doesn't even bother trying to start something fresh and lively. He keeps going back to this old barn. How unoriginal is that? "So what? He makes money doing it!". WOW! What a filmmaker to look up to! I'm not gonna bother doing any more projects...since my last one was popular, I'm just gonna milk it until I die! Forget everything else!

Yikes, what a boring life.

You don't see Nolan re-releasing BATMAN BEGINS with alternate scenes and characters and then putting it in 3-D and re-releasing it and putting it on a special edition anniversary DVD every 2 years.

Even the lowest of the low (Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3) don't re-release into theaters again (in 3-D, with alternate scenes, endings, etc.) and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Lucas is a worn-out, one-trick, lazy, predictable, unimaginative, piece of crap.

And you may argue "yeah? well they keep on making new Batmans and Spider-Mans!!", but the truth is, is that those movies are actually GREAT. They're not tired, boring and rehashed and the same exact movie you saw 30 years ago. Sure, they're based on popular properties, but that doesn't matter as long as they're incredible. When I saw DARK KNIGHT, I didn't think "Yeah, I saw this 20 years ago but this time it's with a different actor" or "this time it has a brand new character in some short scenes I never saw that actually don't matter at all in the rest of the movie" or "this time it's in 3-D". No, it's something NEW. I never saw it before. It's fresh on the eyes.

Indy 4 wasn't bad at all. Look at Hulk or Speed Racer, now those sucked. Even Wall E sucked too. That was overrated.

And yet SW fans continue to buy 100 dollar Sideshow items and other useless stuff."

Useless stuff?

This coming from a guy whose screenname has had 16 more movies than Star Wars with another on the way.

Uh, Casino Royle was the 21st Bond movie and it was better received by the critics and public than any of the SW prequels.

if he can release the new clone wars movie (which tells a story that obviously had no impact in episode III and therefor DOES NOT MATTER which is why its a fkn cartoon) then i doubt anything will stop this.

hey, you know what would be great for the Star Wars Broadway Musical? He should just use the exact script from the Star Wars Radio Drama but on stage! It wouldn't at all be re-hashing the same old thing because it would give the hard-core fans the opportunity to experience the radio drama they already love in a whole new way! The only change you need is to add greater continuity to the hexogy (episodes 1-6) by having Amahd Best as jar Jar acting as a silent comic relief in the back ground of every scene. he should get the lady that did Amidalla's outfits for Episode one to redo all the costumes too. ;-)

All the people that loathe Star Wars can **** off and watch Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman 3 and Hancock. All that churned out Hollywood ****.
