ComingSoon.net caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg on Tuesday and learned that George Lucas is looking to repurpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3D format.

Katzenberg told us that Lucas is very excited about it and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this soon.

why is he doing this? using 3D technology will not negate the crappyness of Episode 1

Fact is, fans can hate Lucas all they want. But these are his movies and he can do whatever the hell he wants with them.

I'll go see them in 3D. It should be pretty cool. I've liked the idea of 3D Star Wars since it was announced that he was considering it about a year and a half ago. I do, however, wish that Lucas would get away from the six he's made and concentrate on new Star Wars stories, or, get some one else to do so.

"I think George Lucas knows that he doesn't know how to direct anymore, so he's just going to keep on playing with these."

lol richtersaurus

completely agree

he needs to move onto something new for a change

this is getting really old and tiresome

Quit your groaning, you're all going to see them when they come out in 3D and you all know it. So does George Lucas and that's why he's doing it. Kinda makes me laugh too. He can reissue stuff that's already been filmed 30 years ago and make millions of free dollars off of it.
