ComingSoon.net caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg on Tuesday and learned that George Lucas is looking to repurpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3D format.

Katzenberg told us that Lucas is very excited about it and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this soon.

Can anyone tell me how this is going to be any good?

I was sitting around the house naked on a bean bag chair eating cheetos when I thought to myself "Self." I said "Yeah, me." I replied "You know what I think is missing from the Star Wars movies?" I asked "No me, what?" I replied "I think those movies should be in 3-D." I demanded "You're an idiot me." I reply angrily "You're absolutley right Self." I said giggling at the idea.

M34, I disliked Jar Jar as much as the next guy, but "American Graffiti" is far from a cult film. It made $115 million in 1973... and it's the #41 movie of all time adjusted for inflation and ticket prices.

In terms of ticket sales, this "cult classic" is higher than movies like the original Batman, Spider Man 2, and Back to the Future. About 1 in 7 of the Top 50 Grossing Movies of All Time were created by this guy.

Not to mention that he created the Graphics Group at Lucasfilm, which would later become Pixar. (And the aforementioned ILM and Skywalker Sound.)

To even suggest "one hit wonder" or lack of vision is sorely misplaced.

Lucas really needs to stop. He's already ruined Star Wars enough with casting Hayden as Vader and that horrible looking cartoon coming out in August. Leave Star Wars ALONE !!! Lucas, you are old and senile!!!

To the ones who are complaining, I don't think he is going to care if it makes money or not. He is a filmmaker guys. Thats what he is all about filmmaking and pushing the envelope. Its his love affair with film. My philosphy is you don't like it, don't watch it. As for me growing up with the originals and that, I think its great that he transforms them into 3-D. I saw Superman Returns in 3-D and man it was amazing a couple years ago. I agree that film should be fun to watch, not just a storyline that makes sense. Too much reality crap going on. I goto the movies to escape from reality, not bring them with me. James Cameron feels the same way as Lucas that in order to keep people coming to see movies, you half to innovate current technologies, or new industries won't get created. I think Lucas is also trying to save the industry not destroy it. As much as I will get criticized for this comment, I think Episode 3 was a great film. I look back at Episode 4 and man now I look at it and see how slow and dull it is in some ways. Not saying 3 is better than 4, but I am just saying Episode 3 has in my tastes to me for my entertainment purposes the right elements. For someone else who likes the originals thats their right. Anyway, have a great day all.

Another thing also seems that those complaining also, why replace your current star wars films with better ones, if you like what you got, keep it, geeze. Also for those who compiling data, ticket sales and that wow, need to get a life and stop dwelling on this so much. After Episode 3 was done and on DVD, I moved on to other franchises, like Indiana Jones or watching films I never seen, be more open minded besides tearing Star Wars apart. Take it for what it is and move on and live life. Thats what Lucas and alot of people would want you to do. Theres also the Terminator trilogy and new Hobbit films to look forward to. I am not even a kid and enjoy the Harry Potter Films. I know I am going to get ripped for my comments, but I just think its preaty sad and pathetic some of the ones who complain for no reason, remember something if not for Lucas, and Kubrick, you be watching films today that look like that crappy sci-Fi film "City Beneath the Sea". Watch that film and you see what I mean you will get better appreciation for what Lucas is doing.
Have a great day folks, its a great day to be alive!!!

There's nothing misplaced about what I said. He doesn't matter anymore. He's that overly proud prick with enough money to keep reality at bay. He slams Spider-Man "It's a silly movie. It's just silly." in other words, no one gav a **** about my films beyond nostalgic fanboys and younger people who didn't know better and now I'm gonna cry about it because my time has passed. I'm the perfect example of the old guy who wont go away and accept the reality that I don't have it anymore... MILK THAT COW George Loser.

No, he said he was just going to do it to the TV series. Post proof of where he said he was going to do it to the movies, a year ago.
