ComingSoon.net caught up with DreamWorks Animations CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg on Tuesday and learned that George Lucas is looking to repurpose the six "Star Wars" episodes into 3D format.

Katzenberg told us that Lucas is very excited about it and that he's got the technical resources to pull it off. "He isn't going to put a product out, I think, that isn't anything other than first rate," Katzenberg said.

Stay tuned for possibly more on this soon.

George Lucas, let me drop some knowledge on you. You are the film industry's 80's musical artist. Going against the usual formula, first you had a one hit wonder as a solo artist, with the Star Wars Trilogy. Then you found a really talented band member in Steven Spielberg and came up with three really good hits in Indiana Jones. The Indy films were not all part of one continuous story as Star Wars was, but for the sake of this argument we'll say it is and that Indiana was your one hit wonder with Mr. Spielberg as a band. No, we can't forget THX 1138 and American Graffiti, but they were cult classics in their time, at best and no one will go back and make their children watch these films. Now you're old, fat and out of ideas. So you go on tour in Mount Pleasant Michigan at the Soaring Eagle Cosino and hit mediocre venues off the main strip in Vegas. Though great in their day and still worth watching the original efforts, now you milk your old ideas. You put a new twist on the same old lemon, polishing it and stamping it with "New and Improved!" Sure, Episodes I through III set records and made loads of money, but no one cares about them after the credits fade. The same goes for The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; no one will care about this movie 2 weeks after the DVD is released for $14.99. Do everyone and your ego a favor and make your money off of Michael Bay using ILM for the next two Transformers films and fall of the face of the earth. Your run as a creative entity ended at Howard the Duck (which sucked! BTW). You've been playing that same old ballad since Empire and Jedi hit the big screen... Move along now.

If all this results in Lucas bringing the CG standards from the originals up to par with the prequels, then I'm all for it. The originals were great but with old school effects and the prequels were pretty awful with wall-to-wall fantastic effects. They don't match up at all. They're two completely separate trilogies in every way.

Um, to the guy complaining about Warner Bros...they're just releasing it, they have nothing to do with it. And they're responsible for The Dark Knight, which puts them a hell of a lot higher than any other studio this year.

Star Wars is a sham. It's a sham in 3D! The Last Three shouldn't have even been made. A FRIGGIN' SHAM!!!! We should all use the word "sham' more often

WOW!! Lucas isn't going to make something new? He's only going to reprise the same old stuff & make money off of the die hard fans just to serve his enormous ego. I find that completely hard to believe. Lucas isn't one to rehash stories we already know the conclusion to just so he can continue to feel relevant even though his ideas are old & outdated. I think we should all just thank him for the genious that he is and give him another $400,000,000 to sooth his massive egotistical appetite.

Well, besides this being old news... looks like i'm gonna have to buy the trilogies again. I have to. It's a sickness.
