Djimon Hounsou is Thulsa Doom

Djimon Hounsou has partnered with Dynamite Entertainment to star in and produce a big screen feature about immortal sorcerer Thulsa Doom, a central figure in the Conan the Barbarian and Kull comic books, reports Variety.

The character will be featured in his own comic book series, published by Dynamite, an imprint of Dynamic Forces, next year.

He originally appeared in the Robert E. Howard pulp story "Delcardes' Cat," published in the 1930s.

Doom was portrayed by James Earl Jones in 1982's Conan the Barbarian.

The planned film will showcase the origins of the flawed hero and show how his road to hell was paved with good intentions.

I really can't comment on the merits of this, except to say that Thulsa Doom is a pretty obscure a character to hang an entire film on. It's funny, Hollywood is constantly remaking existing franchises for fear of risking money on something original but, are willing to spend the money on a film featuring a villain from a franchise that hasn't had any merit since the 80's. "Speed Racer" anyone? This is not to suggest that the movie won't be any good, it could be great. I'm just wondering is there an audience.

i have been hearing about a conan remake since like 2005 and nothing has surfaced...this will probably suck, if it ever gets made.

I am not a Conan fan at all and do not like those type of Universes. But I am a fan of Djimon's and also find this to be an obscure choice. Also the Black Panther.

What I would like to see him do is a Bond villain. Not the main one. Like he could be the henchman, but he takes the main focus, like he's Bond's REAL threat.

Come on people. Imagine a fist fight between Djimon and Daniel Craig. How cool would that be?

Thulsa Doom does not appear in Robet E. Howard´s Conan books. He was Kull´s nemesis.

why not - give it a chance Djimon Hounsou is a superb actor and giving him a staring role like this will stop him wasting his talents in awful chav films like Never Back Down.

Now, if we could actually hear something about CONAN HIMSELF, we might be getting somewhere.

I'm cool with Red Sonja and this Thulsa Doom project actually sounds intriguing. But c'mon, I want something about the big man himself.
