Theroux to Script Iron Man Sequel

Marvel Studios' first production and this summer's current top-grosser Iron Man, has been so successful, grossing over $560 million worldwide, that it was a foregone conclusion that a sequel would happen sooner rather than later. What might be surprising is that according to Variety, they're changing writers for the second movie, going with actor/filmmaker Justin Theroux to pen the sequel, which is planned for a late April release in 2010.

While Marvel Studios negotiates with director Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. to bring them back for the sequel, they've hired Theroux, who some might know from his acting roles in McG's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and HBO's "Six Feet Under." He also wrote and executive produced Ben Stiller's upcoming war comedy Tropic Thunder (also starring Robert Downey Jr.), and presumably Marvel saw that he could write comedy and action suitable for shellhead's sequel. (Marvel Studios themselves haven't commented on any of the developments on the sequel as of yet.)

I'm not so sure about this at all. I think the writer/s from the first one did an excellent job and didn't need to be replaced. Still, Jon came back and he should be able to catch any drastic and unneeded changes.

Why did they feel they had to change the writers for the first one? I don't get it. Marvel is really staring to piss me off. The blood is on their hands if this Phucks up. All this success is filling their heads with $$$ instead of sense. Which is no surprise...whatever...I'll still check it out.

I'm happy Marvel is taking this new direction. Hopefully, since they are starting to switch things up, they could replace Robert Downey Jr. with Christian Bale as Tony Stark. I just hope he's not too busy with Terminator.

" they could replace Robert Downey Jr. with Christian Bale as Tony Stark"

YES! i put in the extra time to copy, paste just to make you feel like the biggest damn idiot on here! That is the worst idea in the history of film making. I bet your the type of person who walks out of the few Vin Diesel movies going "oh **** that movie was awesome". Maybe i am taking this to far, maybe i do need to relax a bit, but you sir are a moron! Your probably looking to see George Bush on the ballot again.....god you just suck! Good day sir!

darkest knight, I hope you were kidding. Why would Marvel studios cast the star of the biggest franchise from DC Comics? And why would the change actors regardless when Robert Downey Jr. was perfect?

I like Justin Theroux as an actor, but I haven't seen any of his writing. I guess time will tell if this is the right call.

i like Theroux, he is a really good actor (when given suitable material, eg: his work in David Lynch's films) and i really liked his directorial debut, "Dedication"

im sure he will do fine. Marvel seems to know what its doing. give Theroux a chance.
