Changes Underway at Warner Bros./DC Comics?

Source:The Hollywood Reporter, Variety
July 11, 2008

Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures is holding new meetings with DC Comics to discuss a new direction for its film adaptations. What is assumed by the trades is that Warner/DC are feeling the pressure with the success of Marvel Studios bringing its many characters to the big screen. Here's the statement released by WB:

"While we are not going to go into the specifics of the meetings, we're constantly looking at how best to exploit the DC Comics characters and properties. DC is an incredibly valuable asset to Warner Bros. and plays an important role across the entire studio by providing development and franchise opportunities for all media, including films, television, home entertainment, animation, consumer products, video games and digital platforms."

Time to speculate on which characters they are thinking about adapting!

you'd think they could use a better set of words than '..looking at how best to exploit the dc comics characters and properties.'

They tend to get a tad over ambitious and lose the original feeling of the source material.

@therightstuff

Yeah, I thought the exact same thing when i read that. how about "how best to translate the characters from print to live action"?

I don't even have a degree in this shazz and i just blew that statement away.

And you know, they should've said something about the properties being important to the fans as well, not just an asset to WB. At least pretend you're looking out for us.

Either way, I'd be pretty excited to see a Green Lantern movie. He and Bats are the only DC fellas i've ever cared much about.

About time they woke up. The issue, however, is that we're tired of waiting for them to wake up. Until they prove otherwise, i'll stick with Marvel.

I think Warners' is a tad worried that DC might consider "pulling a Marvel" and start developing their own movies in-house.

the mistake WB make is ,as Nilade said, they don't stick to the source material and go for toy selling...(Batman Begins being the exception to the rule)...look at at Superman if your going to chuck a load of money at a film then stick in a hardcore villain like Doomsday, it's annoying to see Supes repeatedly beaten up by a powerless bald business man.
and i agree with butnakedavenger a well done Green Lantern film would kick ass

I want my Aquaman movie. Warner doesn't know what to do with the DC license that they own. So many great characters and they just watch as Marvel shells out these blockbuster flicks(Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Incredible Hulk). I'm sure Dark Knight is going to rock, but I'm seriously tired of Batman being the ONLY DC character that gets recognition. I stoppped picking up the Batman comics because he gets so much exposure. Where's the love for Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash???
