The Cinema EXPO in Amsterdam, The Netherlands kicked-off today and a new poster for Paramount Pictures' "G.I. Joe" movie has already been spotted. The poster, featuring Channing Tatum as Duke, reveals that the full title for the movie is G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. What we're not sure about is if this is only for international territories, but the fact that Hasbro has the domain name GIJoeRiseofCobra.com registered is a pretty good indication that it will be the title here as well.

The Stephen Sommers-directed film, co-starring Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston, opens in theaters on August 7, 2009.

I'm in-between with the black suits. I think it's a great way to blend the reality and the source material. And it's allot more believable to wear one of those into battle instead of a beat-up jersey like that one Joe.

BUT, haven't seen'em in action so I really can't say if I honestly like them or not.

Really cool poster though. Just one question...

Are we EVER going to get to see what Cobra Commander looks like before the movie comes out!?!

Not one thing about that poster says GI Joe.

It could be a photo from the movies: the rock or navy seals.

Whoever came up with this idea is an idiot who should be fired.

Snakes Eyes or something that is uniquely GI Joe should be in the poster.

It would be like having a Transformers poster and only showing a car (not transformed), just a plane old car and then sticking Transformers on it. How stupid are the people who are promoting this thing.

Me likey the poster. I reckon the total black look is a little boring visually: some tidbits of color wouldn't hurt the design. However it's not as ugly as the X-Men leather suits, and except for the color scheme the design is really badass IMO. Besides, too much faithfulness can be detrimental, see the ludicrous Mk.I armor in Iron Man.

Overall - and even if I'm skeptical toward Stephen Sommers - I feel like it could be a decent blend of sci-fi, espionage and action. That kind of mixture is pretty rare and I hope they get it right, for once.

Why does Tatum look cross-eyed?

He's not cross-eyed. But I swear his right eye is bigger then his left.

I really don't have a problem with the suits they are wearing. I will agree with Drew217, that going into battle in a beat up jersey is kind of stupid. As long as the characterization is right, and they dont try to make the plot too serious and complicated ("transformers" was a fairly simple story and I didn't have a problem with it. I fealt that it actually was pretty close to the G1 3-part pilot).

Also, Stephen Sommers is not really a bad choice for this. I'll admit that his "Mummy" films and "Van Helsing" are not Oscar-caliber films, but they were fun summer films that delivered what they promised. They never tried to be more than a summer popcorn flick.

Finally, we have to remember that this isn't just a film for fanboys from 1986. GI Joe has had a few different incarnations between my childhood and Sigma 6. The talent behind this had to find a happy medium so that it would be accessible to all audiences, not just target demographics (11-15 yr old boys) or fans of the 80s cartoon, etc.

So basically, hod bck any criticism about the film until we actually see footage (teaser, trailer, behind-the-scenes, the actual movie). Don't base hat the film could be over some publicity shots that are being used to lure in investors and distributors.

I totally agree with Drew217 & eROCK. I was in the military, and trust me; they wouldn't send in a group of soldiers (spec ops or regArmy) with bright multicolored, multi designed uniforms. Especially not in this "post 911" world. I understand why they do it on the cartoon and in the comics, but that just will not do in a modern genre/fantasy film. That said - I totally hate the uniforms too. Why do they all look like they are doubles or stunt men for Christian Bale on "The Dark Knight"?
