Straczynski on His Silver Surfer Script

AMC's SciFi Scanner blog talked to J. Michael Straczynski about his script for the Silver Surfer spin-off that Fox was planning after Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

"Whether or not it ever gets made I don't know because they were kind of disappointed in how 'Fantastic Four 2' did," Straczynski said. "And given how this will be a subset of FF2 in terms of the marketing strategy, I think there is hesitation there about putting it forward. The script is pretty good, I like it, but whether or not it goes into production, I have no idea."

He added that the movie was to "pick up literally the next frame after the FF2 movie, where you find out why Silver Surfer was there and what happened to him. We would have seen Galactus, his home world, what happened and him trying to get back there, because now that he's betrayed Galactus, he's concerned his home world might be in jeopardy."

Asked to explain how we would see Galactus, he said, "In the script I come up with some ways to visualize him that are true to the original, but take it one step further using the current CGI technology that we have. So we would have seen him as a character on numerous occasions in the second movie, not inconsistent with the first distant shot of him in that that's just a way of concealing who and what he really is. Believe me, he would be not at all silly looking."

I don't see any comments on this one, so obviously this isn't going to create a TON of buzz, guess the interest really isn't there, and I think I'm including in that. I didn't care for the introduction of Silver Surfer in FF2. I don't know how accurate it was, don't care for it either way....first?

I hope it does get made because SS is such a great character and with a writer like Straczynski you really can't go wrong. Although it's a shame that they would have it based off of the movie and not starting over like they did with the Hulk

maybe they can start off with a flashback explaining his origin. then bring it back to the present, where FF2 left off where he can go fight Galactus.

I liked Fantastic Four 2. Then again I liked both films. I just blame the release date cause of all the biggger films.

eh the FF movies were lame. If they make a SS movie, they better get a new voice. Laurence Fishburne just did NOT fit.

A true Silver Surfer movie that stuck to the comics would be incredible if done right. If done at all like FF2 it would blow! The only saving portion in FF2 were his scenes. Any of his enemies would give way to a load of special effects, CGI, action galore! Hopefully when and if made it is done true to the comic because it could be a blockbuster and one would not have to be a fan to enjoy the ride!

silver surfer is a tight charecter. I saw go 4 it. add more fighting and I'm in. he was a little lame in fanstastic 4 2, although his little bit of action was the only good part of the movie. literally.
