Meet Dave Takes Nationwide "Head" Trip

Heads up, America, and get ready to Meet Dave – or rather a 15-foot tall replica of the title character's head, from Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming fish-out-of-water comedy starring Eddie Murphy. "Dave" is heading on a cross-country tour – beginning in Los Angeles on June 13, then visiting a "top-heavy" list of major U.S. markets. At the "head" of the list is New York's Times Square, where Dave will "headline" a full three days, July 3-5; the Manhattan landmark also serves as one of the film's key locations. Dave heads home to the City of Angels on July 11.

Across the nation, visitors to the traveling head, which weighs in at almost three tons, will have the opportunity to take photos inside of Dave's ear (mirroring the image in the film’s current poster), then upload them onto the movie's website. Using selected photos from the website, Twentieth Century Fox will create a mosaic version of the Meet Dave poster, which it will place in theaters across the country – where moviegoers can learn if they've made it into Dave's Head.

Meet Dave's Traveling Head

Dimensions:
Height: 15 feet
Width: 20'
Depth: 10'
Dave's Ears: 3' tall
Dave's Neck Size: 17.5 feet
Inside Dave's Head: 5' x 7'

Materials:
Steel cage and supports
Reinforced Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam construction
Fourteen 4' x 8' x 4' foam blocks
Five gallons of glue
100 gallons of Polyurea hard coating
3000 pounds of steel

In the film, opening in theaters everywhere on July 11, Dave Ming Chang (Eddie Murphy), newly arrived in New York City, may be the ultimate fish out of water. There's something about him that's not quite right – for starters, he seems remarkably out of place and uncomfortable in his own body. And for good reason: "Dave" is not a man at all, but a ship made in the image of its miniature-sized captain. It's Eddie Murphy in Eddie Murphy in Meet Dave.

Interesting way to plug the film, though I don't think it's really going to make people want to see it. The trailers have been lousy, and the premise alone seems to invoke sighs of "Was Rob Schneider busy or something?" from many people.

With a blockbuster budget, don't expect this film to be a major box office hit, but expect it to be the opposite:- A miss. Eddie Murphy is good actor but since Beverly Hills Cop III in '95, he has acted in some truly awful movies except Dreamgirls where he could have built on an exceptional performance instead of doing movies like this. I expect it to go to number 1 because there will be an audience out there but hopefully it will fail at the box office.

Hopefully he can do something great with his down spiralling career, like make an R-rated Beverly hills cop 4?

Meet Dave will be nominated for countless razzies.

A ship made in the image of it's miniaturized captain? That sounds horrible! I almost got an instant headache reading that. Eddie Murphy has done some stinkers in his lifetime but this one may make Pluto Nash look good. And they are actually bothering to do all this press for it too? If this movie makes $10M that's $8M too much

Saw the press screening last night and everyone was in shock. All of is figured this would be another "Pluto Nash". However what we got was his best performance of his career. Yes, even better then Dreamgirls. This will be the year we see Eddie get an Academy Award. I'm still in shock and awe at the quality of this film. The entire cast gave an A plus performance and Eddie was incredible. Do yourself a favour and watch this film.
