Len Wiseman to Direct Gears of War

Len Wiseman ("Underworld" films) will direct New Line's Gears of War, based on Microsoft and Epic Games' hit video game, says Variety.

Chris Morgan (Wanted, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) is writing a new draft of the action film that Stuart Beattie originally tackled.

Wiseman will develop the story with Morgan. The two are also collaborating on the sci-fi action thriller Shell Game at Lakeshore Entertainment and Columbia Pictures.

"Gears" revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust, and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.

New Line landed the rights to create a bigscreen version of the game last year, with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing via their Temple Hill. "Gears" lead designer Cliff Bleszinski will executive produce the film and consult on its development for Epic.

Interesting choice. I thought Len did an excellent job with the first Underworld film, and the parts I've seen of LFoDH looked good too. It'll be interesting to see which actors are chosen now.

Ditto...interesting choice. The action scenes in LFoDH were very, very solid and crazy ballistic. Pretty brutal action in that film so I think he'll fit this one nicely. Not an actual fan of the game though...never played it, I only watched my brothers play it alot but it seems like a suitable choice.

Man, I loved the Underworld movies, the first one especially. If he can incorporate that kind of storytelling with some major action on a good budget, look out video game fans, ur in for a good movie. Just hope the movie isn't as bad as some other video game adaptions like doom, or heaven forbid bloodrayne. Lets see where the casting goes, and what kind of storyline they pursue. Also, wonder if epic studios will have any kind of involvement, im sure they will

I still think Alfonso Cauron would have been tailor-made for directing this film.

Just look at Children of Men.
