Eva Mendes to Star in The Bad Lieutenant

Eva Mendes is in negotiations to reunite with her Ghost Rider co-star Nicolas Cage in the Werner Herzog-directed reimagining of Bad Lieutenant for Nu Image/Millennium Films, reports Variety.

The 1992 original film starred Harvey Keitel as a corrupt cop investigating a nun's rape. It was produced by Edward R. Pressman and directed by Abel Ferrara from a screenplay by Ferrara and Zoe Lund.

Billy Finkelstein wrote the updated version, and Pressman is producing alongside Stephen Belafonte. Alan and Gabe Polsky also produce.

Filming will begin in late summer.

Nu Image/Millennium's Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short and Boaz Davidson are exec producing with Elliot Rosenblatt and Alessandro Camon. Randall Emmett and Cage's Saturn Films also produce.

Even if this is a different movie than the original as Herzog has said then why even bother to recycle the name or the main character? Just do a 100% new movie; Cage may be OK in this but besides looking hot Eva Mendes isn't a great actress.

Well, yet another reason not to see this. Eva Mendes grinds my gears, because only a handful of people seem to realise that she's one of the worst actresses working.

They should just call it BAD IDEA.

If she played the part of the raped nun the film wouldn't work, because the audience would sympathise with the rapist.

The should call the movie "Nun Rappings" and have no male leads. All women. Special effects should be used so that Eva plays every part. Like what Eddie Murphy does in "Nutty Professor." Except less fat and more naked. Listen up Hollywood, I got great ideas.
