Josh Zetumer in Talks to Pen Dune

Josh Zetumer is in negotiations to write the latest incarnation of Dune, Frank Herbert's sprawling sci-fi epic, for Paramount Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter says the award-winning 1965 novel -- the first in a series of six books about a futuristic struggle for control of a precious spice called Melange on the desert planet Arrakis -- was first adapted by David Lynch into a 1984 film and was also a SCI FI Channel miniseries in 2000.

Kevin Misher is producing the new version through his Paramount-based Misher Films. Herbert's son Brian and Kevin J. Anderson, who have co-written several additional "Dune" novels, will co-produce.

Peter Berg is attached to direct.

Why? As much as I enjoy the first one and thought the Sci-Fi one was okay... do they really need to make this again?

I am excited about this. I don't think Dune has gotten a full chance to grow. The Lynch movie was great in some aspects, but some things could have been better, and the mini wasn't good for anyone that hadn't read the books.

If you love Sci-fi...

The books are amazing.
Lynch is a genius.
The TV movies were TV movies.
Peter Berg has a fierce, kinetic style of his own that could make this awesome.
I hope he casts a few unknowns...
...maybe for roles like Duncan Idaho...

...yeah, I'm an actor, so what.
Peter Berg is cool.
This movie will be good.

I love Dune but Peter Berg ain't David Lynch. This is going to be a train wreck, like the Sci-Fi mini series.

Bring back Patrick Stewart! Make him Paul's father, Duke Leto. Also give Brad Dourif the same role, no one could do it better and you won't need all the make up to make him look older this time.

David Lynch is the King and I love the original Dune movie. My only disappointment was that Lynch didn't continue on with the series, I loved the books growing up. Maybe Peter Berg will breathe some new life into the series... Please!!!
