Ridley Scott is Returning to Sci-Fi

June 4, 2008

Eclipse Magazine talked to Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott, who says he's finally ready to go back to sci-fi:

I waited for a book for 20 years and I have got the book. I am not going to tell you what the book is but that film is going to probably be written within the next month. That will definitely be what I do next after Nottingham, the Robin Hood film that I am doing now in England.

He also talked a bit more about the long-gestating adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's acclaimed novel, Blood Meridian:

We got it down as a screenplay and the problem is that it is so savage. But that's what it is. If you did it properly it would be an X-certificate. But you can't apologise for the violence and you can't quantify the violence and you shouldn't try to explain the violence. It is what it is... an exercise in brutality, savagery and violence. For the most part it is probably relatively accurate. It shows the flipside to Dances With Wolves of how the United States was probably taken. It was taken by the throat.

While I like Ridley and I think Blood Meridian is an incredible book, there is no way that it will be filmed 'as-is,' with all the violence intact. And that would be a shame, to water it down, it is a savage masterpiece, and it shouldn't be toned down to make the audience more 'comfortable.' It was horrendous and beautiful at the same time, and I don't see any filmmaker alive being able to convey that on the screen.

Suck your balls yourself you loser.

Ridley and Sci-Fi. It's about time once more. Plus this Robin Hood film sounds interesting.

I thought Russell Crowe was in fact the Sheriff of Nottingham, as the story is supposedly a revisionist piece that shined a more positive light on the Sheriff and showing Robin as the scoundrel.

Either way, I CAN'T wait to see what his next sci-fi film will be. If it is in fact Brave New World, then it's guaranteed to be a classic.

Ridley Scott is doing a Robin Hood film. Great. I am a fan of the Costner film and I hope that Ridley Scott brings more realism along with coolness.

I have always been more of a fan of his brother Tony Scott. But, I am aware how Ridley Scott has also been a big part of movie history.

Back to Robin Hood, I watched the first season of the show on BBC Amercica and kind of liked it but, the second season is just becoming to silly with it's drama and coming out more like a stupid soap opera. So, I am glad that there will be another Robin Hood on the big screen.

I am hoping Tony Scott gets back to his more cooler comercial days of movies like Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop 2. He has two of the coolest movies ever. Back then the critics pounded on those films for not being boring films and I think it got to him. So, he has been doing boring films since then.

Tony Scott had cool sunglasses on actors and cool none-stop action long before the Matrix movies ever came out. Well, it is obvious that the Matrix movies where influenced by him and other great film makers.

I hope Tony gets back to making more comercial films again.

I want Ridley Scott to take over the Spider-Man franchise.
