Guy Ritchie Directing Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie has come aboard to direct Warner Bros.' Sherlock Holmes for Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin, reports Variety.

Ritchie is also working on a rewrite/polish of Tony Peckham's script, based on Wigram's upcoming comic book "Sherlock Holmes." The studio is eyeing a 2010 release.

The logline remains under wraps, but executives at Warners are aiming to reinvent Holmes and sidekick Dr. John H. Watson. Wigram's noted that the new Holmes would be more adventuresome and take advantage of his skills as a boxer and swordsman.

This sounds very exciting to me. Hopefully it's not over the top boxing/sword fighting action.

Better not make it a swashbuckler... I'm all for the sword fighting and boxing, but too much of it changes the character.
This goes without saying, but they better do something impressive with his detective skills!

Don't mess this up. It really has potential to be a great film.

I thought he and Madonna split up. Still I agree with Shane. Keep her and her fakeass accent out of this picture.

What an...odd choice. I hope that, if it does demonstrate his combat skills, that it remembers that he is, first and foremost, a detective.

I hope this pans out well.
