Paramount is moving forward with a fourth installment in the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise, reports Variety. Eddie Murphy is attached to reprise his role as Detroit detective Axel Foley, and Brett Ratner is negotiating to direct.

The studio is aiming for a 2009 production start and a summer 2010 release.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy with late partner Don Simpson, won't be actively involved in the new film.

A writer will be hired shortly.

The three original films grossed $712.9 million worldwide. The last was released in 1994.

Ratner is an jagoff. He'll make it stupid. Beverly Hills Cop 4 needs to return to it's roots. But what would 4 be about? Chinese Triad stealing gas due to high gas prices???

I at least have to give Brett Fatner kudos to "Red Dragon".

I don't know how to feel about this. Love the franchise and I'm all for a fourth one, but in this day and age, studios want their action flicks to come in at PG-13, which means no classic Eddie Murphy four-letter comedy and minimal blood. Look at Live Free Or Die Hard. Yeah, it made a boatload of cash, and its because it was reduced to PG-13 and only brought back to its Rated-R status on DVD.
