Hulk Smash American Gladiators!

May 23, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says NBC will air a special "Incredible Hulk"-themed episode of "American Gladiators" with guest star Lou Ferrigno sharing the arena with host Hulk Hogan.

The "Gladiators" episode will include a hulked-out Gladiator Arena and an exclusive 60-second preview from the June 13 release The Incredible Hulk.

The "Hulk"-themed "Gladiators" episode airs June 9.

About 1,000 pairs of Hulk Hands will be given to audience members to wear throughout the episode, and some also will wear Hulk masks. Gladiators will likewise use Hulk Hands while competing in the Gauntlet.

And just about everything will be green!

My buddies and I attended those Gladiator TV tapings. It was bleeding awful. The day we went they shot the entire season's worth of segments which feature the battle of the giant q-tips over the water, nothing else. Lou Ferrigno sitting nearby was pretty sweet (we shouted "Louie!" throughout his appearance) but everything was slow and boring. Those Hulk hands? Yeah, we had to give 'em back after they taped what they needed. Didn't see any masks, though the gladiator Titan did appear with all-green body paint at the end. The producers need to take a cue from Vince McMahon and his World Wrestling Entertainment for how to handle "sports entertainment"... if you manage to sit through the entire tapings (over six hours with no food whatsoever) you get paid... we left as soon as the shoot wrapped up.

I think this is a Brilliant move.

Seeing Iron Man at the 7-11 and in car ads is what sold a good deal of the american public on it. When the glowing reviews pour in- that this is better than the new, already deflating Indy movie - those Gladiators fans (i.e. everyday americans who LOOOVE popcorn - myself included) are gonna choose Hulk over 'Happening'.
