John Cusack has signed on to topline Roland Emmerich's (10,000 B.C., The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day) apocalyptic thriller 2012 for Columbia Pictures, reports Variety.

Redbelt star Chiwetel Ejiofor also is in talks to join the big-budget epic, which chronicles the end days of human civilization.

The studio is keeping the logline under wraps, but it is believed to revolve around the upcoming apocalypse predicted by the Mayans.

Emmerich and Harald Kloser wrote the screenplay.

Shooting will begin in July in Los Angeles for a July 10, 2009 release.

Jackson Curtis? Curtis Jackson(50 Cent) Lol. Sounds like a good movie, I'm just hoping it's a little more organized then 10,000 bc. That was a good movie but it,s didn't stay true to the time period. Guess we're gonna have to wait and find out.

looks like John is tryin to end his career....

sorry after Day after Tomorrow ( all the good parts were the first 35 minutes) and 10000 BC I think Emmerich has gone from good director to hack.

At least 2012 has some real life prophecy/ science fact about it. Interested to see what he does with it. And yes for the most part he does suck balls.

From that description it reminds me way too much of The Day After Tomorrow.

I tend to hate everything Emmerich directs (with the exception of Universal Soldier and Stargate) so this movie didn't have much going for it to begin with. But any hope for this thing was kicked in the face as soon as I read "in order to prevent" -- that's such an Emmerich / Bruckheimer maneuver. Of course they can't let the world actually end. They don't have the balls to do something so bold. This project is done. Dead. Do not report on it any more.

Emmerich must give the best deep throat in Hollywood. Big Budget? How? Why?
